08/26: Pavano Ready?

Well, according to the New York Daily News:

Carl Pavano allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings for Triple-A Columbus last night in what might have been his final rehab start.

Although Pavano has only thrown 16-2/3 innings in the minors since May surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow, the Yankees are considering bringing him up to make his season debut.

Well, I know pretty much everyone has low expectations for this, but with the injury to Moose, it seems like as good a time as any to get him a couple (2) of starts and see if he might be able to help us in September or (dare I say it) October (don't hurt me).

Couldn't really hurt. The rosters are expanding in a week so we wouldn't really have to drop anyone and there's still that doubleheader Sept. 16 against Boston. I'm sure he can be a better "extra arm" than Sidney Ponson was.

Of course, that's if, and only if, Pavano is league average. Think about it - more than five innings of average ball...Jaret Wright can't do that and he's been HEALTHY all year!

I'd agree, but five innings of average ball could be a year's worth for Pavano. I hope he can come back and pitch okay for us, but anything good that comes out of him this year is gravy. Not really counting on him.

Yeah, I agree as well, but that's the big if (low expectations). If he can get going, certainly he's either 4th or 5th and we're better off. But, he hasn't really gotten going in pinstripes.

Wright has had value this year. 9-7, 4.72. After last year, not sure what to expect, but he's kept himself healthy and plugged away. Certainly not great numbers, but it could have been worse, really.
