07/06: All-Star Rosters Announced; Three Yankees on Roster

The All-Star rosters were announced earlier today on TBS, and MLB.com has the list of participants on their site. Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter are both starting in their respective positions, and Mariano Rivera made the team, as well.

Jason Giambi, Mike Mussina, Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui were all left off the roster, although Giambi is a candidate on MLB.com's Final Vote.

I'd imagine Giambi will get the nod to replace the injured David Ortiz on the roster, but I could be wrong. I was a little surprised to see Moose left off the team, as well.

That Jason Varitek is on that roster is just plain sickening to me. He has a .219 batting average with a .661 OPS right now...that does not scream all-star to me.

Yeah, I was just chatting with Seamus. We agreed that the players vote worse than the fans. At least, I think, the fans have a greater understanding of the stats. Kinsler was deserving over Pedroia, but that's nothing compared to Varitek making the team.

ESPN just showed a stat: he has the worst batting average of every catcher in the AL, minimum 180 ABs. Yeesh.
