08/28: Wrap-Around Series in Detroit Ends With 16-0 Pounding

Mike Mussina logged yet another awful outing, going only three innings and allowing 6 runs off 9 hits in a game he knew was especially crucial, considering all the speculation about what may happen to his spot in the rotation. Obviously he's not going to be replaced by Kei Igawa (I say "obviously" but there are no surprises with this staff), but as we approach September 1, we may see a young guy like Ian Kennedy or Steven White get a shot once the roster expands to 40 players.
As for the Yankees' offense last night...oh wait, there was none (/paragraph).
The Yankees will be coming off a 2-5 road trip heading into tonight's game against the Red Sox, but on the bright side the momentum from other games always seems to be totally discarded coming into these series as if there is a separate season that consists only of Yanks. vs. Red Sox games. The Yankees will send Andy Pettite (11-7) to the mound to face Daisuke Matsuzaka (13-10) in a matchup featuring two pitchers who all in all have both pitched better than their won-loss records. Game starts at 7:05 ET.
