Mike took a look at his team in the Yankees Bloggers League. That seemed like a good idea, so I thought that I'd do the same for my team. Here is how my draft went (round to the left, overall pick in parentheses):

1. (3) Álex Rodríguez, 3B
2. (18) Derek Jeter, SS
3. (23) Carlos Lee, OF
4. (38) Bobby Abreu, OF
5. (43) Mariano Rivera, RP
6. (58) Hideki Matsui, OF
7. (63) Huston Street, RP
8. (78) Scott Kazmir, SP
9. (83) Jorge Posada, C
10. (98) Prince Fielder, 1B
11. (103) Justin Verlander, SP
12. (118) Barry Zito, SP
13. (123) Andy Pettitte, SP
14. (138) Jim Thome, Util
15. (143) Josh Barfield, 2B
16. (158) Freddy Sánchez, 2B/3B/SS
17. (163) Freddy García, SP
18. (178) Jeff Francoeur, OF
19. (183) Michael Cuddyer, 1B/OF
20. (198) Joe Borowski, RP
21. (203) Kei Igawa, SP

The first thing I think of when I look at this is... I waited until the 8th round to take an SP? Even then, I was kinda iffy because I don't know that much about Kazmir. But, I needed a starter, he was rated highly on the rankings I had in front of me... so I took him.

With the first pick, I was between A-Rod and Santana. Santana wouldn't have been a bad pick there by any means as he's been so consistently awesome, but I had to go with A-Rod. And then I took Jeter. I hope that my team chemistry won't be ruined!

Abreu was a bit of a stretch, I think, but the clock was running out on me, I saw his name and thought "what the heck?" I could do a lot worse, I'm sure. Similar thing happened with Matsui, I think.

Mike grabbed the first two closers of the day in Joe Nathan and Francisco Rodriguez with the 39th and 42nd picks. I was actually thinking/hoping he'd take Rodriguez because I really wanted Mo. So, I was happy with that pick.

After I took Prince Fielder in the 10th round, I looked over my team and noticed that, yes, I only have 1 starting pitcher and the draft is nearly half over. So, I took drafted starters in 3 straight rounds, taking Verlander, Zito and Pettitte. Pettitte may have been a bit of a stretch, but I was looking over the starters and... he seemed as likely as any of them to have a great season. Happy to take another Yankee, of course.

With round 14, I had been watching Thome for a few rounds and waiting for him to get taken. Old or not, he's reached 42 home runs and 105 RBI in 5 of the last 6 seasons. He can only play utility, so that hurts his value. But I figured at 14, he was a value pick and I couldn't pass him up.

Honestly, I don't know about Barfield. I didn't have a 2B, he looked like the best one available, so I took him. We'll see. Of course, I followed that up with Freddy Sanchez. I was surprised he was so low, but I guess the lack of HR kills him. Still, I was happy to take both him and Cuddyer because of the versatility. I had them last year. Between the two, I have 1B, 2B, 3B, SS and OF covered.

Freddy Garcia was just kind of an "eh" pick. I felt I needed another decent starter and felt he fit the bill. We'll see. Jeff Francoeur was just kind of sitting there and he was rated a fair bit higher on the rankings I had in front of me, so I decided to give him a go.

With 2 rounds to go, I noticed that I only had 2 closers. That's a problem. So, I looked at the board quickly and decided that Borowski was probably the best available. Hopefully that works out.

Probably by accident, but I think my team is pretty well balanced. Especially my offense. I am a little worried about my starting pitching, but at the end of the day, a rotation of Kazmir, Verlander, Zito, Pettitte, Garcia and Igawa isn't that bad. Fingers crossed...
