Sitting in his car outside Legends Field yesterday, Rivera was asked by The Post if he could be Boston's closer next year.

"You never know," said Rivera, who is determined to become a free agent after the World Series since the Yankees didn't react to his December request for a two-year contract extension.

Determined to become a free agent? I don't really think that's accurate. Or, I hope not.

Mariano Rivera is not going anywhere. He loves being a Yankee and he will eventually sign with them. He's just trying to rush Cashman into signing him now, but Cashman is smart and knows Rivera is 37 years old & he wants to wait & see how Rivera throws this year before he offers him a 2 year deal. Also, if the Cubs can't sign Zambrano, how about the Yankees trading for him ( providing he agrees to a long term contract with the Yankees ). Why not trade A-Rod, Humberto Sanchez & another minor leaguer like Clippard for Zambrano & Aramis Ramirez. Call me crazy, but I really believe this can be possible if Zambrano doesn't sign with the Cubs in the coming weeks. Someone get this message to Cashman. He might like the idea.
